Tracks, tracks, tracks. Now with more green!
Thank you to all the sponsors, builders, helpers and braaiers! In yet another amazing show of support and generosity, many of you chipped in to get the lawn we need to make the park green. Today we worked on planting all that grass so many of our members sponsored. More than just making it beautiful, this grass will stabilise the track edges and protect all that hard work the building team put in. We combined the gardening with a bit of a braai and social. To top it all off, Japie did an impromptu auction of gear members crafted and donated to help the club raise funds for our various projects. To all of you who laboured so hard to get us here a big, 'THANK YOU!'. It has been humbling and inspiring to see how you pour heart and soul into making this happen! Here, in a couple of photos is an idea of how quickly this project has progressed and how much work has been done. 15 July 2022: Heaps of soil and yellow machines land on-site. 15 July 200: This looks like dune moles gone mad, but it is the basic layout taking shape. 30 July 2022: Shaping continues along with compacting
Ready Rider One!
It's blowing hot and cold here in Kleinmond. The weather might be cold, but our track-building team is bringing the building heat! In true down-hill style, they are not just building they are testing too! Check out the airtime on these shots. Going up! Up, up and away! These are shots on the way down. No, just kidding! Layout looking good! Track, from Arabella side.
Soon it will be track-day.
The track-building team has been hard at work designing, shaping and polishing not one, but 2 tracks. We are so stoked about this! As soon as these tracks are ready-to-ride, we invite you all for an open day. That's it, you get to ride our new tracks for free on that day! While we try to remain calm and recheck our riding gear, here are some photos of the work that has been done the the past week and-a-bit. Dirt, lots of dirt and big yellow machines. Also smaller yellow machines. First downhill and jumps. More dirt :P Conference time.
Hermanus + Kleinmond club ride
All along the lagoon. The Kleinmond and Hermanus MTB clubs recently explored some of the Kleinmond trails together. Bertus van Zyl sent us this update. During our recent Hermanus MTB Club ride we were privileged to ride the Kleinmond Black Route. 10 riders from the club and High School MTB team showed up on Sunday morning, none of us knowing what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised to have 4 friendly local riders from the Kleinmond club guide us on a scenic route on which we encountered the famous Wild Horses and stunning views of the Botrivier estuary and the ocean beyond. The last third of the ride took our breath away firstly by the steep little climb and quite literally the breathtaking view that awaited us on the contour line, taking us back to Kleinmond. The "not technical" singletrack kept teasing us to quickly catch a glimpse of the view without riding the track. After 3 hours we were thankful to reach Kleinmond but also overwhelmed by the unexpected beauty we witnessed. Absolutely worth the trip.Thank you Kleinmond Cycling Club. Riding into the sunrise!
