Cape Cycle Routes

Did you know that this Western Cape Government initiative offers 5 different routes across the Western Cape?

The aim: to grow cycle tourism in the Western Cape.

The routes are open 24/7/365, free of charge. Simply download the map, pick your pace, plan accordingly, and go for a ride.

  1. Cross Cape is a 742 km route with a difficulty rate of 8/10 and is recommended for a 5 – 20 day journey. The route stretches from Plettenberg Bay to Stellenbosch. The route is predominantly made up of gravel roads and forest tracks.
  2. Cycle Tour 364 starts and finishes at Cape Town’s historic V&A Waterfront, along sections of the iconic Cape Town Cycle Tour route. You’ll ride past the gate of the Cape Point Nature Reserve. The figure 364 refers not to distance – you’ll only be riding 123.3km – but to the number of days on which the route is open. Days 365 is for the Cycle Tour itself, of course.
  3. The Cederberg Circuit takes you on a 247km journey through winding historical mountain passes, past crystal clear rivers and unique nature reserves. This circular route starts and ends in the citrus haven of Citrusdal.
  4. The Overberg Meander covers 364km and you’ll ride through Swellendam, Cape Agulhas, Elim, Hermanus and Grabouw as well as an optional detour through the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve into Kleinmond, home of the Kleinmond Cycle Club.
  5. The Karoo Crossing takes you on a 358km journey as you start – or end – your ride through Knysna. Experience De Vlugt, Buffelsdrift Road, De Rust, Matjies rivier, Calitzdorp & Prince Albert. You will discover the Karoo is equally as beautiful at night as during the day.  Exhale as you take in this magical place and meet some of the most welcoming locals.
